Hello! I’m Akash Anand, a Ph.D. student at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, where I work in the SILVIS Lab under the guidance of Prof. Volker Radeloff. My research lies at the intersection of Remote Sensing, Artificial Intelligence, and Biodiversity Conservation, with a special focus on understanding habitat dynamics and biodiversity patterns using satellite imagery.
Currently, I am developing deep learning-based approaches, including Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) and Explainable AI, to model species distributions, habitat selection, and urban ecological changes. My work has been presented at major conferences such as NASA Biodiversity Team Meetings, IEEE IGARSS, and the Ecological Society of America.
I am a recipient of the prestigious NASA FINESST Fellowship, along with multiple research and travel awards, and have authored over 15 peer-reviewed journal articles and 3 book chapters in the fields of remote sensing, biodiversity monitoring, and ecological modeling.
